Quintessential Pieces Of Training Equipment For Shaolin Kung Fu

If you've been reading my articles for a while, then you know that a large theme of them is "I do dumb things so you don't have to" - I love martial arts, I love learning new styles, and I love integrating things from different styles into jiu jitsu and the softer forms of Dragon Style Kung Fu, while holding on to the striking elements of Shao Lin Kung Fu.

Well, right now, I'm going to tell you about something dumb someone else did, so that you can avoid his mistakes. I love martial arts, my wife puts up with my martial arts, and so on and so forth, but sometimes I need to touch on the basics. The most basic thing about studying martial arts is proper training gear.

I'm going to focus on the essential Shao Lin Kung Fu training gear here, because of something I saw in the dojo that really upset me. We had a new student come in, who'd studied at another school before moving to Las Vegas, and was all excited about showing off at a new school. I take partial responsibility for what happened next - I wasn't paying attention; I'd seen some experienced students showing each other some moves, doing a throw or two, and went back to talking to the parents who were considering signing their son up for classes.

I didn't see everything that happened, but the new student was showing a block-and-punch combination he'd learned, and slipped, and one of my students did HIS counter-block and punch combination - and both of them landed full shots. With no protective hand gear or mouth guards. One set of badly bruised ribs, three shattered teeth and one EMT visit later, I'd had the parents take their son out (their son thought it was cool...), and had to give a really stern lecture about the essential kung fu safety gear to the class I was teaching. I'm still hoping this won't raise the dojo's liability insurance rates.

So, here it is for you: You want clothing that lets you move freely. A gi or training jacket, or even a bright yellow jogging suit will work for this. If you're a guy, you want a cup. You want footwear that will keep you from bruising or breaking bones in your feet when you kick. You absolutely want a mouth guard - Bennie, the new student who got broken teeth - would've been unhurt if he'd been wearing a mouth guard.

When you're sparring, you absolutely want hand protection. You don't need full on boxing gloves, but anything that will allow you to move full speed without hurting someone is essential. You're making a lot of sudden moves with a lot of power behind them, and it's possible for someone to get hurt.

And in 1984 it became a separate company on the stock market. Then it was purchased by Ford Motor Company in September 1989. And just recently on June 2 2008 Tata Motors of India bought the Jaguar from Ford Motor Company.

The 1952 Jaguar XK120 was a sports car manufactured between 1948 and 1954. It succeeded the SS 100 which ended its production after the start of World Wad II. It was launched at the 1948 London Motor Show as a test bed vehicle to highlight the new Jaguar XK engine. But the car became such a sensation that William Lyons was persuaded to put it into production as a standard model.

The first cars that were manufactured had hand built aluminum bodies on an ash frame. Its famous engine was the XK engine which had dual overhead cam 3.4 L straight-6 engine. The XK120 was available as a coupe, convertible, or an original roadster.

In January 1954, the XK120 coupe won the first 24 hour race held in Australia. In June 1954 a XK120 FHC won the first import win in NASCAR's first road race at Linden Airport New Jersey. In 1949 a publication called The Motor Magazine recorded an OTS roadster having a top speed of 124.6 mph and could accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 10.0 seconds.

I spent two hours looking at many different types of Motorcycle jackets.

I had 3 goals
1. Protection
2. Fit
3. cooler for warmer temps

My first thought when trying on the various brand names was I was glad I am seeing these jackets in a store, instead of just buying one on the internet. Some of the jackets were heavier than me. Some fit badly even though they were my normal size medium. And the mesh jackets seemed a lot of trouble with there waterproof inserts and all.

I had Joe Rocket pants and absolutely love them but their jackets just didn't fit me and they didn't even begin to look like what I imagined on the internet.

I bought the Cortech for several reasons.

It was not bulky but it felt very protective. Some jackets seemed to weigh more than me. The jacket felt very comfortable when I moved around.

The small size fit me perfectly, I usually wear medium, but small size was just right. The sleeves were not too long or short.

It is waterproof, no more messing around with rain jackets, in Oregon this is very important.

Quality, it certainly looks, as far as I can see, to have no flaws.Very well made.

Ventilation was good but not great, arms and the front by shoulders and back had venting. It seems like 80 degrees, if moving, would be comfortable. I went to buy a mesh jacket, I just couldn't believe in the mesh jackets for protection or quality.

Reflective striping was good. I choose the color black, I just liked it, I felt the striping would keep those that could see motorcycles ample opportunity to allow my presence on the road. The blue was nice and Red was okay.

The zip out lining seem it might extend the comfort to around 45 degrees.
I liked it, doubt I will use it over 60 degrees.


The armor was placed exactly in the correct position and seemed stable, there were some expensive jackets where the armor could move significantly.

And the price with my AMA discount was great.

I wish there was one jacket for all occasions, although crashing is not something I wish to too, it certainly has happen to some excellent riders. So even though I want to be cool on those hot sunny afternoons, I went for safety instead.

I am happy with my purchase, but I want to caution you to find a store, if you can that sells all the major brands. Try them on, dedicate at least one hour. I am sure I would have bought a jacket that I would have been stuck with or had to play the return game if I hadn't try them on in this store. The jacket I was going to buy, brand name, was terrible for me.

One last thing, I want to thank the Honda store that left me alone for a long time, until I was ready for them, a leisurely pace looking at jackets was wonderful. I enjoyed giving them money.

A motorcycle jacket has long been a fashion statement for those who wish to look cool in public. And there are a lot of people in that category. The primary reason for wearing one would be either to look 'cool', 'stylish' or 'in'. It adds an additional touch of masculinity and 'machoness'. But still, at the end of the day, the majority of us don't know where, and how to buy a jacket we'll like ourselves and be comfortable in.

There are some very simple things to keep in mind when attempting to buy a jacket you'll enjoy not only showing off to your friends, but wearing. Here they are:

1. With clothes, the very first thing that strikes you is the color. They can either be outrageous, soothing, traditional, or just plain loud. It's the same with motorcycle jackets. Men have very few colors to choose from, but with women, it's different. But whatever gender you may be, always choose a color that looks good on you. Be happy yourself with what you choose.

2. Men generally have a color choice of black, grey, brown, red and bottle green when it comes to buying jackets. Women have many more colors to choose from, and they don't, unlike their male counterparts, necessarily make the wearer more masculine or macho.

Quite on the contrary. But for this very same reason, men defer from experimenting with colors, fearing it'll take away the added bonus of looking macho and overly masculine. This is a wrong notion, and is not always correct. Go ahead and freely choose from the colors available. One of them is bound to suit you, and you shouldn't keep yourself from choosing an unconventional color if you happen to like it.

3. If you are looking for a choice in colors when buying motorcycle jackets, running from store to store searching for that perfect hue, tiring yourself out in the process....this can turn out to be a very big hassle. Enter the internet, helping make your life a little easier. Okay, make that a lot. Using online stores, getting that jacket of your dreams can be really very easy, and you can check out more jackets this way in a very short time.

Also, if you have a color already decided in your head, there are plenty of online sellers ready to help you out, if you tell them exactly what color and sort of jacket you're looking for. It is your responsibility, however, to figure out which of these online sellers really deliver what they promise, and the whole rigmarole of online buying can be a little costlier than what it is generally, but hey, you know you're getting your money's worth, and what can be a more satisfying feeling than that?

Motorcycle Jackets

Several countries require motorcyclists to wear protective clothing. This may include helmets, jackets, pants, gloves and boots. This is done mainly to protect the motorcycle rider from serious injury in case of an accident. Motorcycle jackets are a common piece of protective clothing worn by riders and are generally made of tough materials such as leather, nylon or Kevlar. Compared to fashion jackets, these jackets are heavier, thicker, and often include an extra layer of heavy padding on the elbow, spine and shoulder regions.

Ross Langlitz, a resident of Portland, Oregon, invented the classic American motorcycle jacket with epaulets and diagonal zipper in 1946. This jacket became highly popular after it was worn by Marlon Brando in the movie, The Wild One (1954).

Besides offering protection from serious injuries, some motorcycle jackets also provide protection from the weather elements. A motorcyclist is often exposed to chilly winds and rain. Ordinary jackets offer little or no protection in bad weather, whereas motorcycle jackets are waterproof and do not allow wind chills to affect the rider.

Leather motorcycle jackets are usually made from buffalo, cow or elk hide and vary in thickness. Compared to leather jackets, protective motorcycle jackets made of man-made material such as nylon and Kevlar are becoming increasingly popular, due to their ability to offer better protection from heat, cold and rain. These jackets can have more pockets and vents, offering greater utility and more comfort, especially in summer.

Trail bike riders usually prefer to wear a range of plastic armor to protect against injury from falling off, collision with other riders and running into track barriers. This armor helps protect a rider from suffering fractures, spinal injuries and other serious injuries of a similar nature.
